VCD Hosts Workshop on Grief, Healing, and Advocacy for Safer Communities

On March 4, community members gathered at 1708 Johnson Street for the fifth installment of the “Safe Communities, Strong Families” Workshop Series, hosted by Victorious Community Development (VCD). The session, titled “Grief, Healing, and Advocacy: Supporting Families Impacted by Violence,” provided a meaningful space for participants to share experiences, access resources, and find strength through collective healing.

This eight-week series is focused on empowering families and strengthening neighborhoods by addressing pressing issues such as gun safety, conflict resolution, mental health, financial literacy, and community engagement. Each session equips attendees with tools to build safer, more resilient communities in Saginaw.

The March 4 session featured a powerful presentation from Mr. Anthony Jones, Marcia Jones, and Cheryl Timberlake, members of the VBM Grief Share group at Victorious Believers Ministries. GriefShare is a support program designed to help individuals navigate life after the loss of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. Through personal testimony and guided discussion, participants were offered encouragement, coping strategies, and pathways to healing rooted in faith and community support.

Attendees participate in “Grief, Healing, and Advocacy: Supporting Families Impacted by Violence,” held on March 4 as part of the Safe Communities, Strong Families Workshop Series hosted by Victorious Community Development.

The evening emphasized the importance of advocacy as a form of healing—encouraging participants to honor loved ones through meaningful action. As a token of care, the first 25 attendees received complimentary self-care kits.

The “Safe Communities, Strong Families” workshop series continues every Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Center. The program is free and open to the public. To register or learn more, call 989-752-1660 or email info@houghtonjones.org.
