Healthy Living Takes Root at Gardening and Juicing Workshop

Community members gathered on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, for a hands-on workshop focused on gardening and healthy juicing, hosted by Victorious Community Development in partnership with the Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Association. Held at 1708 Johnson Street, the event brought neighbors together to promote wellness, sustainability, and healthy habits through practical demonstrations and activities.

The workshop featured engaging presentations by Patricia Clark and Deborah Templeton, who shared the benefits of juicing as a way to extract and concentrate the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients found in fresh produce. Attendees sampled freshly made apple juice and later a refreshing apple-cucumber blend. The presenters also highlighted how adding herbs to juices can boost both flavor and health benefits.

Following the juicing session, VCD’s LaFrance Thomas led an interactive presentation on gardening. Participants learned how to plant herbs and flowers and received tips on starting and maintaining a home garden. Attendees were also able to take home starter plants to begin their own herb gardens, making the event both educational and empowering.

The event included visual demonstrations of gardening tools and produce varieties, and attendees received prizes to encourage continued gardening at home.

This community event is part of VCD’s ongoing effort to equip residents with practical skills for healthier living. By combining education with hands-on experiences, we aim to inspire individuals to make wellness a part of everyday life—starting right at home.
