“Safe Communities, Strong Families” Workshop Series Continues with May/June Events

Victorious Community Development is continuing its impactful “Safe Communities, Strong Families” workshop series, offering residents opportunities to engage in community-building conversations and gain practical tools to strengthen families and neighborhoods.

Held every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1708 Johnson Street, the workshops are free to attend and focus on critical topics such as public safety, youth empowerment, and mental wellness. The series, now well underway, has drawn participation from residents across the city seeking to address challenges facing their communities.

Upcoming sessions include:

  • May 27: Building Safer Communities: The Power of Collaboration
    This session will highlight how neighbors, organizations, and local leaders can partner to create safer, more connected communities. Participants will receive a free guide on starting a neighborhood watch.
  • June 3: Grief, Healing, and Advocacy: Supporting Families Impacted by Violence
    Attendees will explore strategies for healing and honoring loved ones through conversation and support. A free self-care kit will be given to the first 25 attendees.
  • June 10: Engaging with Law Enforcement: Bridging the Gap
    Focused on building understanding and trust, this session fosters open dialogue between community members and law enforcement. All participants will receive a “Know Your Rights” wallet card.
  • June 17: Media Literacy: The Impact on Violence Perception
    This workshop explores how media shapes narratives around violence and provides tools for critical thinking. Attendees will receive free worksheets and a recommended reading list.
  • June 24: Celebrating Unity: Family Fun and Safety Day
    The series wraps up with a day of family activities, safety demonstrations, and community connection. Free resources, prizes, and entertainment will be available.

The series is hosted by Victorious Community Development in partnership with the Houghton Jones Neighborhood Association, with a mission to equip families with the knowledge and tools needed to build safer, more resilient communities.
