Dr. McDowell is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Saginaw Valley State University and the owner of McDowell Healing Arts Center (MHAC), one of the largest minority-owned mental health facilities in the tri cities. In just seven years, MHAC has grown from 1 therapist, Dr. McDowell, to a full staff of over 40 people and two locations. Social Work Professor at Saginaw Valley State University. Melvin has been trained in several evidenced based practices such as: Wraparound, Strengthening Families, Motivational Interviewing, Problem Solving Therapy, Cultural and Linguistic Competency, Trauma Focused CBT, and CBT. Melvin is also a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) through the Council of Family Relations and a Certified Life Coach through Winners way Coaching.
